When you are keeping up with receipts, make sure to also keep the ones you have for things related to your business like cake decorating books, mixing bowls, baking pans, and even some recipe books. You can use all these items for your business at tax time. Make a certain file just for the items you will need for your business when it comes time to fill out your tax returns.
You might be able to spend hours in learning how to decorate cake layers. These hours will pay off when you know how to do many kinds of designs. This will also allow you to be able make more cakes for more occasions than just the birthday. You can make beautiful anniversary cakes or wedding cakes that will seem to beautiful to even eat.
Being in business for yourself with baking cakes, you should also make a portfolio of unusual and different cake decorating designs. You can think of designs that no one else will have in their bakery. This is a good way to keep clients coming back again for the same kind of cake for another party or special occasion.
Think of how much fun you could have baking cakes and getting paid for it too. You could have a blast making money if you love to bake and decorate special cakes for special occasions.
